EDITORIAL COMMENT:
More snow due here tonight. WILL THIS WINTER NEVER END????? (rhetorical question)

"OUR ANIMAL FRIENDS" DEPT.
The picture to the left above is our Alaskan Malamute, Alanna. The picture to the right is of adorable
but unidentified cats. They have never met Alanna and are probably just as happy thay haven't.
Four hundred and seventy-three welcomes and thanks for dropping by. Ol' Zouki has been busy tidying up
in here and adding new stuff, so if you've been here before, have another look.
- The BB original songs etc. portion of the website (the bbsongs area) has been
overhauled to make it more "user friendly" (at least I think
so!) Check in and
have a look (and let me know what you think).
- The Tunes_Online page has
all my dance tune compositions - some of which have
actually been taken almost seriously by various musicians. Tune files are
in
three formats, PDF (for the "dots"), MIDI (so you can actually
hear the tune),
and Finale (you can see/hear the file, make changes, etc.)
There are instructions on the homepage for downloading the "plug-in"
programs
you need to take advantage of the Tunes_Online area.
- The Zouki webABC site has been
overhauled and is now simpler to use (I hope).
If you're looking for a tune beginning with the letter "T", type:
www.qmcorp.net/zouki/webabc/t/
in your browser's address line and you'll get right to the T index page.
No more tune
gnomes (they'll be missed!) Over 2000 tunes from various sources in ABC
notation.
(Of course there's also a link to each index page from the webabc homepage.)
NOTE: if you're a traditional musician and don't know anything about ABC,
you'd be
doing yourself a big favor to find out more about it! Hey - you'll thank
me!
- BB "serious" works are now in a separate folder called
bbworks. That section of the
website has also been updated to make it easier to use.
- The CAPETRAD events page
is proving very popular - if you haven't visited, please
take a moment to do so! It lists concerts, sessions, etc. of a traditional
nature
going on down in this part of the world, along with links to similar sites
elsewhere.
- The Northeast Ceili Band homepage
OLDER (BUT STILL RESPECTABLE) STUFF:
Lots of improvements (I think) in the WEBSONGS
area:
- an entire page of words for the songs you'd be most likely to sing at
a gig or
a session. Primarily a memory resource to replace the battered 3-ring binders
full
of illegible booze-stained scrawls that most pub singers have. (I'm sure
I've
overlooked a few songs, so let me know, and yes, I did leave out THE UNICORN
and CHARLEY ON THE MTA on purpose!)
Love the tune of "Danny Boy" but get the queasies when
you have to sing the
schlock words? No problem! Here are three solutions to your dilemma:
= Irish words to the tune and Zouki will help you learn them if you
= "Hymn to Saint Patrick" - new
English words to the tune
= "Oh Mary Dear" - Count
John McCormack's version; may be considered of equal
schmaltz content to "Danny Boy" but at least written by an Irishman.
(Thanks
to Kevin McDermott for supplying this.) [posted 9/1/03] NOTE: KMcD informs
me
that McCormack was a real count, not a "count" with quotation
marks, hence same
have been removed with apologies.
NEW NEW NEW!!! Eight years of drivel: Zouki's postings
to the Irish Traditional
Mailing List (IRTRAD)
Zouki's literary attempts (poems
and stories)
NOTE:
You need Acrobat Reader to handle .pdf files - click here to get
to the Adobe
website where this handy program can be downloaded.
For aspiring or other banjo players, a link to Zouki's Banjo Hints area
Zouki's Helpful Harmony Hints -
mostly for accompanists, but don't let that stop you
from visiting (then telling your favorite back-up player about it)

Important news about almost anything, when I feel like posting
it (or, increasingly
these days, when I remember it)
Comments about this website or any other aspect of your life can be addressed to
zouki@aol.com. I'm always happy to hear from you, even if I have no intention of
doing anything about your suggestions!
Cheers
